Prayers That Avail Much: Book Pick
Prayers That Avail Much by Germaine Copeland is my Book Pick for this month. What I love most about it is that the prayers are categorized by theme and purpose. For example, there are prayers for wisdom, forgiveness, healing, restoring relationships, and dozens more.
All of the prayers are taken from Scripture. So, when you pray, you are coming into agreement with God’s word and His heart. Isaiah 55:11 NIV gives us an understanding of the importance of doing so: “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Praying the word, especially when we pray it aloud, releases what God desires to accomplish in and through our lives.
Also, Hebrews 4:12 NIV tells us, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” God’s word is alive!
About the Author
The author Germaine Copeland has spent decades of her life devoted to writing Scripture-based prayers. Actually, she has written three volumes! I picked up the 25th Anniversary Edition which includes all three. I include one or two prayers in my daily devotions.
Scripture-Based Prayer
What has been most valuable about this book is that it has taught me to craft my own Scripture-based prayers. When I read the Bible, and a particular verse is highlighted by the Holy Spirit, I now know how to turn it into a prayer.
Prayers That Avail Much is one of those books that deserves a place of honor in any home library. It is a helpful reference that comes in handy for nearly every prayer purpose. I appreciate Germaine Copeland for being faithful to the God-given task of writing and compiling these prayers. Her example is teaching generations how to effectively pray!
